Hi Wildlife-Supporting Neighbors!
We are currently looking for photos from any neighbors or neighborhoods that are interested in becoming a “Neighborhood for Wildlife.” If you’ve started to think about or build a wildlife neighborhood, we’d love to post some pictures of your progress so far. You can send your photos to carole@neighborhoodsforwildlife.org, and I’ll be sure to post them. Please identify what’s in the picture if it’s not obvious. See one example below!
For now, to be a Neighborhood for Wildlife, just working with a neighbor on any joint wildlife-supporting activity will count! Here is a list of criteria I’m considering, as the organization ramps up. Let us know what you think.
Certification to Become a Designated Neighborhood for Wildlife
- Two or more households cooperating on at least one activity or project to support a wildlife species.
- Two or more neighbors creating habitat for one or more wildlife species. Both/all habitat patches must be accessible to the targeted species.
- Assessment of current/baseline habitat resources and current wildlife species must be completed.
- Threats to wildlife species must be assessed.
- Plans for improvement of wildlife habitat must be considered with at least 2 objectives.
Be sure to keep in touch and let us know how things are going or to make suggestions! And don’t forget to send those pictures!
For all our neighbors,
Carole
