Several years ago (pre-pandemic!), I was reading about neighbors not knowing their own neighbors. As a long-time lover of wildlife, it occurred to me that people in neighborhoods could work together to get to know one another and to help wildlife that is on the decline at the same time. By working together in bigger patches of habitat, people could build relationships and contribute to saving species of all kinds.
And anyone in any kind of neighborhood can make this happen – from apartments to suburban areas to rural ones! Anyone from children to the elderly can help by researching, mapping, contacting experts, planting food, helping to resolve wildlife-human conflicts, and so much more.
The objective is to keep this process simple as a website and organization, but to see real things happen in neighborhoods – just to serve as a place to see what others are doing, share notes, and inspire one another here.
I’m looking forward very much to seeing neighbors working with those closest to them geographically to create and maintain neighborhoods for the wildlife around them!
Cheers!
Carole
